A Puppy

I’ve never wanted a puppy—not exactly. Because it always seemed impossible. We had too many allergies at home, mine included. I stopped thinking about it.

When I was a kid, we tried getting a puppy. A Bichon Frisé. But within days, my mother’s allergies were awful, and we had to return the dog. That left us all pretty heartbroken. We still have one picture from those few days, and the puppy looks like a little stuffed animal between us.
