This year, for my husband’s birthday, we went to Eastbourne, and the start of a set of cliffs called the Seven Sisters. I picked it because it was the only thing that I could think of that would be dog-friendly.

There are so many British things that I’ve learned about having a dog. Here, a leash is called a lead. If someone asks if your dog molts, they’re asking if they shed. If someone asks if they can stroke your dog, they’re asking to pet your dog. Or, it’s also normal to ask, Can I have a cuddle?, which means they want to pick up your dog. I love all the language around them.

For my husband’s birthday, I wanted to do a dog-friendly trip because we had to try at some point! For our last few trips, we’ve left our dog, Forest, with friends, but we wondered if maybe we didn’t need to. So I picked somewhere that wouldn’t be too far, booked a dog-friendly hotel, made a reservation at a dog-friendly restaurant, and we were off!
